When no-one really understands what we do as event managers

In today’s episode of Event Ninja News I share a few tips to make your life a little easier when you feel like no-one really understands what you do and how much pressure you’re under.

Watch this week’s episode for my full description or keep reading for a quick overview.

I was recently speaking to one of our past interns, who is now working as a full time event manager… she rang to thank me for these weekly Ninja News posts. She explained to me how much she appreciates this forum as a way to connect with me and to feel like at least one person understands what she’s going through!

If you’re the only person in your company who is responsible for organising and running events, it’s easy to feel alone and perhaps even a bit unappreciated at times. Your colleagues and friends often don’t understand exactly what it takes to run a successful event and how much pressure you’re under.

That’s why it’s super important to find a way to connect with others in the industry who are battling to same things as you are everyday. Whether that be via this forum, or perhaps you can do it in person at industry networking events. On-line groups can be a great source of support as well. We have a facebook group that you should consider joining if you haven’t already…

Also, have a think about anything you can do to personally to free up more time to dedicate to triple checking everything which should reduce some of the stress and pressure in the long run.

Here are a couple of things I do in the lead up to an event…

Hire help (if you have the budget) or even find your own intern through a local university or TAFE Place an online delivery order for your groceries. That way, you can ensure you’ll have nutritious food waiting for you at home without even leaving your desk. Have your event uniform / work clothes cleaned and or pressed by the dry cleaner to save you time Do a big cook-up and freeze meals. My go to event meals are stir-frys, frittata (great for breakfast or lunch) and some frozen berries to make a juice on the run.

If you would love to be involved in a supportive community of event planners as well as have access to our proven process for running successful events (a guaranteed time and stress-saver!) then come on over and check out Event Ninja Academy. Enrolments close this Thursday!

Do you have any tips for connecting with other people in the industry? I’d love to hear your stories. Leave me a comment below and I’ll be sure to reply.

Keep running events, connecting people and changing lives.
