About The National Hotel
The iconic National Hotel, located on Richmond’s bustling Victoria Street, is a place for locals and far-flung travellers to come together in a community minded space, where the staff are always proud to serve and the atmosphere is heady with good vibes.
The National Hotel is the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or special occasion.
Our venue offers four individual spaces, theGarden Parlour, the Café, the Den, and an open-air courtyard. Each room is unique in its offerings and can be tailored to suit the size and nature of your event.
The National Hotel can accommodate any affair, from an intimate corporate lunch to a lavish cocktail party for 150 guests.
Whatever your requirements may be, we customise each event to ensure it’s a reflection of your specific needs. Our approach is always flexible and we can shape floorplans and spaces as required. We are more than happy to discuss your vision with you!

The Garden Parlour
Our Garden Parlour is a space you can make entirely your own. Its contemporary design and private bar are just a few of the elements your guests will love. Faint murmurs from the bustling next door beer garden set the scene with large, glass sliding doors that can be opened up or closed to the elements. We also have your entertainment needs covered with our TV and microphone. The Garden Parlour’s flexible furniture arrangement make it perfect for any style of event. For functions in the Garden Parlour with guest lists over 80, we also allocate a portion of the western side of the beer garden and turn the function area into an L-shape.

The Café
The café space is a luxe, intimate room with concrete brick walls, a long parquetry table and huge street facing windows. It also features private access to the main bar and a warming fireplace perfect for winter functions. This room is ideal for private dinners, intimate cocktail parties, presentations and group meetings.

The Den
The National’s Den space is pretty much just that – a little den tucked away just past the booths and the front bar. This semi-private dining area features a fireplace and exposed brick walls. There’s room to hang out, and it’s private enough for groups while still being part of the action in the main bar.

Beer Garden
The beer garden is perfect for all group bookings. Large tables line the timber deck, and the scene is set with hanging lamps in amber glass bottles bolstered across the courtyard, providing a twist on the Chinese lantern. Winter phobics need not fear, the multi-seasonal courtyard has an undercover area with heating, plus a ping-pong table and view of the night sky for the summer months. Canapés and a la carté is available, with easy access to the main bar.

Private Terrarium Workshop
Join Melbourne’s Queen of the Jungle, The Plant Whisperer, to create your very own miniature world. Learn all about terrarium care, soil
composition, layering techniques, plant selection and design in this fun and interactive workshop.
Everything is included so you just need to bring yourself!
What’s included: Small glass terrarium vessel, stones and rocks, soil and moss, selection of tropical plants, figurines.
Terrarium workshops will take place in the Garden Parlour and will run for approx. 1.5 hours with your chosen catering options served after the class.

Our resident cocktail expert will guide you through the making (and drinking!) of three signature cocktails. Learn to shake, mix and taste like a pro in this fun, boozy class
Cocktails Masterclasses will take place in our Garden Parlour or Café dependant on group size and availability. The class will run for approx. 90 minutes.

Murder Mystery Trivia Christmas Function
What better activity for some Christmas time team bonding than working together to solve a mystery. Not your average pub trivia, your guests will embark on four thrilling rounds of pop culture and general knowledge questions in the hope of picking up on clues and putting together pieces of the murder mystery puzzle.
Figure out whodunnit, where it was done and what poor soul suffered the unimaginable fate to win!
The trivia will take place in our Garden Parlour and will run for approx. 2 hours. Canapés can be served between rounds or a sit down meal can be served to guests before or after the trivia.

Private Painting Class Christmas Activity
We’ve teamed up with our favourite painting class to offer your guests a chance to show off their artistic flair.
In this private workshop a professional artist will guide everyone, step by step, to create their own masterpiece. We’ll take care of the art supplies, all your guests will need to bring is a love for trying something new and a willingness to give it a bash!
You can choose which artwork guests will be recreating from a selection in either acrylic or watercolour, or you can paint portraits of each other to adorn the office walls!
Painting functions will take place in the Garden Parlour and will run for approx. 2 hours with your chosen catering options served after the class.
